The Drawer Method Why the Mind Freezes Before Huge Tasks A few days ago I came back home and decided that I should finally organize the apartment. Now, this sounds like a completely normal adult sentence. The kind of sentence responsible people say before efficiently improving their lives over the weekend. In reality, for me, this decision carried the emotional weight of preparing for a polar expedition with inadequate equipment and questionable morale. The reason is embarrassingly simple. For the last eight years I mostly lived elsewhere. I came home only occasionally, usually tired, carrying things with me, dropping them somewhere inside the house and telling myself the same optimistic lie people have repeated throughout human history: “I’ll deal with this later.” Later never arrived.
